Writing Diversity Statements
Are you planning a career at a community college, small liberal arts school, or primarily undergraduate institution? Many institutions ask for a diversity statement as part of your job application. An effective diversity statement, in addition to your statement of teaching philosophy, will strengthen your application. This website is intended to provide resources to help you navigate the importance of diversity statements, view example statements, challenge yourself to think about how diversity is present in your classroom and teaching, and provide real prompts from current universities and colleges asking for a statement. Even if your application does not ask for you to submit a statement, you can incorporate your ideas about diversity into your statement of teaching philosophy.
The following are files we distributed during the Diversity Statement workshop presented by Teaching Assistant Consultants at the University of California, Davis on Nov 2, 2012.
